WPIAL Team Wrestling Brackets Announced

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) announced its Wrestling Team Championship brackets on Thursday afternoon, with 16 teams qualifying in the 3A classification and 12 teams advancing in the 2A classification.

All semifinal, consolation final, and championship matches will be held on Saturday, February 5. Peters Township will serve as the host for the 3A final four, while Chartiers-Houston will have the 2A final four in its gymnasium.

Both the 2A and 3A sectional tournaments were contested on Wednesday, January 26. In 2A, Burgettstown (Section 1), Quaker Valley (Section 2), and Burrell (Section 3) emerged as champions, while in 3A, Kiski Area (Section 1), Greater Latrobe (Section 2), North Allegheny (Section 3), and Waynesburg Central (Section 4) finished on top.

Two streaks will be on the line entering the WPIAL team tournaments. Burrell has won 15 of its 17 overall WPIAL 2A team championships consecutively, beginning in 2007, while Waynesburg Central is the two-time defending champion of the 3A classification.

– Semifinals to begin at 12:00 PM, championship/consolation to begin 15 minutes after last semifinal bout
First Round/Quarterfinal Hosts: Waynesburg Central, Canon-McMillian, Connellsville, Greater Latrobe
2020 Final: Waynesburg Central 67, Seneca Valley 3
