McDonnell Claims WPIAL 2A Boys’ Golf Individual Crown

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Brian McDonnell, a senior from Eden Christian Academy, carded a five-over 75 to capture gold by one stroke at the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) 2A Boys’ Golf Individual Final on Thursday. Held at the par-70 Allegheny Country Club in Sewickley, 18 of the 70 competitors qualified for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 2A Individual Championships held on Oct. 18 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

McDonnell navigated the course with 13 pars and five bogeys, ultimately finishing one lower than Quaker Valley junior Jackson Bould. This was the Eden Christian Academy senior’s first appearance at the WPIAL 2A Individual Final.

Making his third consecutive WPIAL Championships appearance, Bould’s 76 (+6) came on the strength of two birdies and nine pars. He finished one stroke ahead of the two third-place finishers, Elizabeth Forward junior Logan Monzak and Frazier sophomore Nixen Erdely, who both entered the clubhouse at seven-over 77.

Four golfers tied for 17th in Quaker Valley senior Adam Tanabe, Derry junior Antonio Houser, Neshannock sophomore Matt Morelli, and Beaver County Christian senior Micah Guevara. Morelli birdied the first playoff hole to claim the next-to-last spot for the PIAA Championships, then Tanabe snatched the final bid with a par on the second playoff hole.
