Malosh Collects Gold at WPIAL 3A Girls’ Golf Individual Final

Greensburg, Pa. – Marissa Malosh, a junior from South Fayette, recorded an even-par 72 to collect gold at the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) 3A Girls’ Golf Individual Final on Thursday. Hosted by Hannastown Golf Club at its par-72 course, seven of the 36 competitors punched their tickets to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A Individual Championships held on Oct. 19 at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.

Malosh posted three birdies and 12 pars, closing strong with two pars and a pair of birdies on 17 and 18. She topped the field by two strokes after finishing tied for 11th in 2020 as a sophomore and 12th in 2019 as a freshman, and is the first winner of the WPIAL 3A Individual Final to finish at or below par since North Allegheny’s Caroline Wrigley in 2018.
There was a tie for second place between North Allegheny junior Katie Rose Rankin and Fox Chapel senior Nina Busch. Both golfers finished with a pair of birdies on 17 and 18, with Rankin netting four in total to go along with 10 pars. Busch collected 12 pars to pair with two birdies.
Uniontown’s Adena Rugola and South Fayette’s Caroline McConnell tied for fourth place with scores of 75 (+3), and Peters Township’s Allison Poon and Mt. Lebanon’s Lindsey Powanda claimed the final two PIAA 3A Individual Championship spots by both carding a 76 (+4). Powanda entered as the reigning champion and will competing in her third state tournament, while McConnell finished runner-up in 2020 and will also make a third PIAA appearance.
