WPIAL Sets 2022 Boys’ & Girls’ Golf Team Championships Brackets

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) has announced its WPIAL Boys’ & Girls’ Golf Team Championships brackets, with all four championships set to be held at Cedarbrook Golf Course on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The top two teams in each section, including ties that can’t be broken, earned qualification into their respective classification’s bracket. Boys’ golf has semifinal rounds with 19 3A teams and 20 2A teams making the tournament, while girls’ golf moves straight to the finals with its 12 qualifying teams. The top three team scores from each boys’ golf semifinals move onto the championship round at Cedarbrook Golf Course.

Boys’ golf section champions in 3A include Avonworth (10-0), Central Catholic (12-0), Fox Chapel (9-1), Laurel Highlands (10-0), Mars (8-2), Moon (8-2), Penn-Trafford (7-3), Peters Township (10-0), South Fayette (8-2), and Upper St. Clair (8-2). Moon, South Fayette, and Upper St. Clair all shared the Section 7-3A title.

Boys’ golf section champions in 2A include Belle Vernon (12-0), Carmichaels (10-2), Derry (11-1), Fort Cherry (9-1), Freeport (14-0), Hopewell (11-1), Keystone Oaks (9-1), McGuffey (10-2), Mohawk (10-2), Neshannock (10-2), Quaker Valley (10-0), South Park (12-0), South Side (11-1), and Waynesburg Central (10-2). There was a three-way tie in Section 3-2A between Carmichaels, McGuffey, and Waynesburg Central, while Section 4-2A (Fort Cherry, Keystone Oaks), Section 5-2A (Mohawk, Neshannock), and Section 6-2A (Hopewell, South Side) all boasted co-champions.

In girls’ golf, there was only one shared title in Section 1-2A with Greensburg Central Catholic (7-1) and Mt. Pleasant (7-1). Fox Chapel (9-1), Franklin Regional (12-0), North Allegheny (9-1), and Peters Township (10-0) were named section champions in 3A, while Shady Side Academy (6-0) claimed the other 2A section crown.

Each WPIAL champion will earn qualification into the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Team Championships, which are set to take place Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Penn State Golf Courses.
