WPIAL Announces 2022 Boys’ Soccer Championships Brackets

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) has announced its WPIAL Boys’ Soccer Championships brackets, with championship games set to be held at Highmark Stadium from November 3-5.

Teams qualify for the postseason by finishing in the top four of their respective sections in each classification following the regular season. Postseason play begins on Thursday, October 20 with a pigtail match in the 3A classification.

Peters Township (12-2-0, 36 pts.) and Seneca Valley (13-0-1, 40 pts.) claimed section titles in 4A. In 3A, Kiski Area (11-1-0, 33 pts.), Moon (14-0-0, 42 pts.), and Thomas Jefferson (13-1-0, 39 pts.) all won section crowns outright, while Franklin Regional (13-1-0, 39 pts.) and Plum (13-1-0, 39 pts.) shared the Section IV championship.

There was a split in Section II for 2A between Deer Lakes (13-1-0, 39 pts.) and Shady Side Academy (13-1-0, 39 pts.), while Belle Vernon (12-2-0, 36 pts.), Quaker Valley (12-0-0, 36 pts.), and South Park (14-0-0, 42 pts.) earned section titles outright. In 2A, Greensburg Central Catholic (10-0-0, 30 pts.), Seton LaSalle (10-0-0, 30 pts.), and Winchester Thurston (10-1-1, 31 pts.) captured section gold, and Eden Christian Academy (11-1-0, 33 pts.) and Sewickley Academy (11-1-0, 33 pts.) shared the Section I crown.

The top three teams in the 1A, 2A, and 3A classifications and the top two teams in 4A will earn qualification into the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Boys’ Soccer Championships, which are set to begin on Tuesday, November 8 and conclude on November 18-19 at Cumberland Valley High School.
