McGuffey’s Dunn Wins WPIAL Rifle Individual Title

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Riley Dunn, a sophomore at McGuffey High School, captured Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) rifle individual championship on Thursday afternoon at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club, posting a score of 200.19 to edge Butler’s Brianna Bell at 200.18.

Dunn is McGuffey’s first champion at the WPIAL Rifle Individual Championships since John Hupp claimed the gold in 2011. She joins Hupp, Rebekah Ashbrook (2008), Joe Nuzum (2006), and West Lauff (2005) as the five Highlanders to win Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District VII’s individual rifle title.

Dunn and Bell were followed on the leaderboard by four scores of 200.17 – Butler’s Hannah Beacon, Hempfield Area’s Lydia Dunn, and Penn-Trafford’s Seth Baughman and Mallory McRae.

A total of 16 student-athletes qualified for state competition: Riley Dunn (McGuffey), Brianna Bell (Butler), Hannah Beacon (Butler), Seth Baughman (Penn-Trafford), Lydia Dunn (Hempfield Area), Mallory McRae (Penn-Trafford), Lily McMahon (Trinity), Taylor Burnfied (Waynesburg Central), Jack Loomis (Upper St. Clair), Gracie Ruffner (Armstrong), Sierra Allison (Trinity), Morgan Malecki (Woodland Hills), Adam Colhoun (Bethel Park), Alexia McCabe (Hempfield Area), Hayleigh Gorog (Butler), and Alex Jackson (Mt. Lebanon).
